How to Troubleshoot No Volume from Speakers


Many a times we play music, watch movies or play games but sound of music or volume is not coming from speakers. this issues might be because of various reasons like sound card problem, volume is muted, volume is set to low, speakers are not power on, drivers are missing and so on.

So let us see how we can troubleshoot no volume problem.


  • Check if speakers are powered On.
  • Check if audio jack is plugged in the correct jack i.e. it should be plugged in audio out / speakers out jack on sound card.
  • Check the level of volume set on the speakers and make sure speakers are not muted.
  • You can also unplug 3.5 mm jack from computer sound card and plug it in mobile to verify if speakers are functioning properly.
  • Make sure audio  drivers are not missing or disabled .To do so you can right click on computer and navigate to properties and click on it. Then you will be able to see different options in left pane like device manager, remote settings protections and so on.Click on device manager and make sure no question or explanation mark or down arrow is displayed on audio drivers.
  • Make sure audio jack is plugged in fully.

Advance Startup Options for Troubleshooting OS




If we press and hold F8 during windows startup we get advance startup options which can be used for troubleshooting windows.  Some of the startup options includes.


1.Safe Mode
    Safe mode allows you to start a PC in safe mode.Safe mode means only limited services which require PC to start and it will start with no internet connection no other programs are auto started in safe mode.

2.Safe Mode with networking
   Safe mode with networking same like mention in above point  but in this you will be able to access network.Means network drivers and services will be loaded.

3.Enable boot logging
Two event log files that come in handy for troubleshooting your PC are the boot log files. These files are created when you specify boot logging as a start-up option. The files are named either ntbtlog.txt or bootlog.txt, depending on how old your PC is. These files, found in the Windows folder.
You can enable or disable boot logging by using the MSCONFIG utility.


4.Safe mode with command prompt
  Safe mode with command prompt will only start command prompt.Enable boot logging will generate log files in C drive in that everything about drivers,services and processes will be there which is started when computer starts.

5.Enable Low Resolution  Video
 If Windows seems to start normally,suppose if you set high resolution on your PC then in monitor you get something like out of range or display goes black at that time you need to change resolution settings you can start your PC in this mode and change the resolution

6..Last known Good configuration
  It means that restores registry and driver's.let's say your network driver's is not working today but it was working yesterday then automatically this option will restore  the last known successful drivers that worked.

7.Directory services restore mode
Directory services restore mode is not used on work-group used if PC connected to domain controller and used to restore active directory service's.

8.Debugging Mode
  The Windows operating system includes various startup options for troubleshooting issues with the  Windows boot process. One troubleshooting option, Debugging Mode, is available for system administrators and advanced users.
While debugging mode is not necessary to repair startup problems, it does disable some drivers, which could be causing problems when the system starts up.Debugging mode is nearly identical to normal Windows operation and you can access the same startup tools to fix your issues.

9.Disable automatic restart on system failure
 Disable automatic restart on system failure is self explanatory.

10.Disable Driver signature Enforcement
Disable driver signature enforcement will allow unsigned drivers to be installed.

11.Start windows normally
 Start windows normally will start in normal mode like how it used to start always.

     

How to Troubleshoot No Display problem on monitor

Output on computer screen can be stopped from display due to different reasons like monitor is not turned on, cable not connected properly, sufficient power is not supplied to the monitor, power supply problem, motherboard problem Ram problem and so on.

So let us see how we can troubleshoot no display on computer monitor.
  • Make sure power cable as well as video signal cable is properly connected to the monitor and it is turned On.
  • Try connecting monitor to any other computer or laptop to see if monitor is working. If it is not working try replacing video signal cable.
  • Check with multi-meter if you are getting correct voltage from power socket i.e.230VAC.
  • If motherboard has dual VGA output try connecting the VGA cable to second VGA port.
  • Clean the RAM and reinsert it. If not working try replacing RAM.
  • Use CPU tester to make sure processor is working properly. You can also use PCI debug card to identify the problem.
  • Try using other switch mode power supply for powering on the motherboard.
  • Use PCI VGA card or Graphic card and check if you are able to get display on the computer screen.
